September 2025, from a newsletter + meat offerings for the fall

Hello out there!

We’ve had the usual busy summer made possible by the excellent Milkhouse crew. The creamery crew has made thousands of gallons of yogurt week over week, and we’re only adding to it all as school orders started to roll in a couple weeks ago. The farm crew has tended animals and pastures, milked twice daily, maintained equipment, and put up much of the feed we’ll need this winter.

The weather has been challenging. First an absolutely sodden spring, heat waves followed in June and July, and now we’re in a major drought that will likely leave most Maine livestock farmers short on feed this year. Many of us will be looking to Canada, New York, and possibly even the midwest for other sources of feed to supplement what we were able to make earlier this summer. Gotta keep everyone fed through the winter!

Back to the meat of this newsletter - I’ll likely only send emails when we have meat available - but what else might you be interested in? I’d love to send out regular farm updates as time allows, perhaps diving into particular parts of what all happens at The Milkhouse.

For now, I’m here to tell you that it is the time of year when we start to send pigs to the butcher. Please let us know if you’d like a half or whole for your freezer larder!

I hope you all have had a beautiful summer, and I wish you all a peaceful, cozy, well fed fall & winter.

Warmly, from all of us here at The Milkhouse,

Cait
